SessKag Series: The Pact, Part 137

This entry is part 137 of 141 in the series The Pact [Ongoing]

Inuyasha wasn’t at home when Kagome arrived. Considering how late it was, she figured he was probably off on a days’ long mission trip with Kohaku. Kagome despaired at the idea. She’d psyched herself up so much for this confrontation that to delay it now set her nerves on edge. Her only remaining hope was that Inuyasha might be over at Sango’s place, and so that’s where she went.

“Sango-chan?” she called out as she mounted the porch step. “May I come in?”

“Come in, Kagome-chan!” a chorus of childish voices called back, with Sango’s among them.

Kagome entered the house with Shin in arms. The main room was warm and golden in the afternoon light, savory with the scents of dinner being prepared. Kagome’s eyes lighted at once on Inuyasha, who’d stood up from the floor to greet her with the twin girls and their younger brother giggling and hanging off him. By the hearth, Sango knelt, absently touching a hand to her stomach while she stirred the stew and checked the rice. Though she didn’t quite smile, her dark eyes were soft and warm as she watched Inuyasha tussle with the kids.

Emerging onto this scene of domestic tranquility, Kagome felt strangely like an intruder. In the threshold, she stood, hesitating. Inuyasha crossed over to her at once, grinning ear to ear as he plucked Shin from the sling at her chest. The nimble taijiya children dropped lightly from him as he did, landing on their feet like trained acrobats.

“Kagome-chan,” the twin girls said brightly in unison, without preamble, “Uncle Kohaku and Rin-chan got married!”

“Uh huh!” their little brother Komori chimed in. “They flew off on Kirara-chan, after.”

Kagome’s eyes widened. The horrible tension in her chest eased slightly. She smiled toward Sango.

“That’s wonderful news, Sango-chan. I’m very happy for them both.”

Sango smiled back. “It was a bit of a surprise. But a pleasant one.”

“Surprise?” Inuyasha scoffed. “Yeah, I’ll say. More like they ran off together.”

“Well,” Sango said diplomatically, “the wedding ceremony itself was rather hasty. Still I feel that this union was a long time in the making.”

Inuyasha hmphed. “Fair enough.” His amber eyes fell to Shin. “How was your trip, little guy?”

Shin burbled happily, tugging at Inuyasha’s forelock. All the tension in Kagome’s chest returned at the sight. Clearly, Shin had missed him.

As a shiver of youki stirred the air, Inuyasha burst out, “Holy shit!”

Everyone but Kagome stared in shock as Shin breezed into his hanyou form, beaming. The kids ooh-ed and ahh-ed. Sango touched a hand to her lips. Inuyasha’s fanged jaw unhinged.

“There’s his puppy ears!” Komori chirped, pointing.

Inuyasha chuckled, tweaking at one of Shin’s velvety black dog ears with pride. “Look at that. You’re a chip off the old block, aren’t ya?” Slanting a look at Kagome, he frowned. “How is this not a big deal to you?”

“Sorry,” Kagome said, distracted by her own inner preoccupations, “I’ve just seen him like this before, that’s all.”

Inuyasha’s ears dipped. “Oh. Okay.”

As his eyes met Shin’s green ones again, a furrow formed between Inuyasha’s dark brows. His frown deepened. Kagome wondered anxiously at this, just as Sango called out—

“Dinner’s ready!”

  1. I love this series so much! I’ve just discovered it 2 days ago and I’m already to here, can’t wait for more!

    1. Aww thanks so much, Kitty! So glad you’re enjoying the series! Hope you enjoy the next part <3

  2. IM HAVING A PANIC ATTACK.

AT FIRST I THOUGHT SHE WAS ABOUT TO WALK IN ON SANGO AND INUYASHA … TOGETHER.
THEN I THOUGHT SHIN TRANSFORMED INTO HIS MINI SESSHOUMARU FORM.

Whewww, let me catch my breath. I wonder what that look Inuyasha had on his face while staring at Shin meant…
and Kagome, are you REALLY going to spill the beans over Sango’s homecooked dinner?? She should’ve waited for Inuyasha to come home dsjglkdsjgsd.

LOVEEDDD IT, CHAR! THANKS FOR THE UPDATE <3

    1. Omggg wait, does Shin have telepathy with Inuyasha while in his hanyou form???!?!?!??!?! WAS SHIN TELLING INUYASHA THE TEA (sorry i had to come back and read it a couple more times hehe)

      1. Hahaha thanks so much, bella! Love hearing your thoughts on the scene! There’s certainly a lot brewing in this one 😉 Hope you enjoy where things go from here…! <3

  3. omg i caaaant!! that baby sango is pregnant with it probably inuyasha’s 👀 they’re for sure linking up. something’s brewing!!!

  4. They’re about to have a row in Sango’s house?? 😳🫣 That’s for sure significant somehow.

Also I love the little detail about Kagome feeling like a stranger/she doesn’t belong in this space anymore. I think her heart’s already long decided her course.

    1. Ahh thanks so much, friend! Love that you liked that detail 😉 Hope you enjoy the next part! <3

  5. Oh I didn’t know you wanted to kill your readers from this anxiety train! More like rollercoaster of emotions!!

When will it all come out?

I also don’t think Sango and Inuyasha are cheating. There are only 2 cheaters here and it’s Kagome and Sesshomaru.

I love this story so much! Thanks for the update

    1. Hahaha yeah it’s a rollercoaster all right! XD

Love hearing your thoughts on the dynamics at play, Kathy! Thanks for sharing & for the kind words! Hope you enjoy the next update <3

  6. Haha Rin and Kohaku pulled a Romeo and Juliet. But if it’s what Rin truly wants, then Sess would always let her do as she pleases imo. I don’t think they have to worry about having a dog demon on their tail. Plus he can’t complain when he essentially pulled the same stunt XD

I hope Shin inherited some of his papa’s tact. Don’t you snitch on your mama, pup 😭

    1. “Haha Rin and Kohaku pulled a Romeo and Juliet.” – lol yep pretty much! XD

Thanks so much for sharing, oskorreia!! Hope you enjoy the next part! <3

  7. The suspenssee omg I can’t XD The tension got me breathing heavily.

As his eyes met Shin’s green ones again, a furrow formed between Inuyasha’s dark brows. His frown deepened.

Is it the green eyes?? Something strange about his scent?? Or is Shin sending telepathic pictures to his retinas?? Oh no 👀

  8. Inuyasha got fooled by the puppy ears but I think it’s FINALLY dawning on him that’s not his kid 😭 Boy, where were your super senses at this whole time?

  9. Wait a minute, I thought in this story, hanyou are naturally barren. Isn’t that why Kagome went to Sesshomaru to begin with or am I confusing this story with another? If I’m not wrong, how come some people are thinking Sango was impregnated by Inuyasha? Anyways, Inuyasha sure is suspecting something with Shin’s most recent transformation. Patiently waiting on next update.

    1. Thank you, Sasha! Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the scene! Hope you enjoy where the story goes from here <3

    2. I think you’re confusing this story with another. In The Pact, Inuyasha was unable to impregnate Kagome because to put it simply, Kagome wouldn’t let him. Subconsciously, her own reiki prevented the seed from taking root. Sesshomaru mentioned it himself in another chapter:

      //
“I had no cause to feel anything about it then,” Sesshoumaru said with chilling nonchalance. “I didn’t think it possible you would conceive.” When Kagome stared at him, he continued, matter of fact, “Our conflicting natures defy it. I enjoyed breaking past your defenses for challenge’s sake. I suppose because of this, I happened to succeed where Inuyasha failed—”

“Stop it!” Kagome cried, lurching to her feet. When Sesshoumaru rose to steady her, she shoved him off. “Stop it…just s-stop …”

She could feel his eyes following her as she staggered over to the window and braced herself weeping against its frame. She told herself it wasn’t true—couldn’t be true. What he’d implied about her and Inuyasha was too horrible to contemplate…

That unconsciously she had rejected him.
