SessKag Series: The Pact, Part 135

This entry is part 135 of 142 in the series The Pact [Ongoing]

The next few days passed like a dream. Kagome spent her daylight hours wandering the magical winter landscape with Shin and Sesshoumaru. She spent her twilight hours locked in Sesshoumaru’s heated embrace, tangled up with him in flesh and in spirit, in the bed of lush furs which was theirs alone. A private world unto themselves, until Shin inevitably barged in. But he was part of this world, too. He was born from it, this unlikely union of souls. The miracle of her son’s existence wasn’t lost on Kagome for a second. Especially not here—in this enchanted place, of all places.

At nighttime, they sampled the strange demonic fare of the region. Kagome made faces at most of these meals, unable to stomach them. But she smiled and laughed at how much Shin enjoyed these so-called delicacies. He seemed to share Sesshoumaru’s uncanny appetites to a tee.

The demonic flora and fauna of the castle began to lose their inhibitions around her. Kagome saw more distinctly the various spirits which inhabited them, ranging in apparent age from urchin-like giggling sprites to sleepy old antlered sages. But she knew that looks among youkai-kind could be deceiving. Sesshoumaru seemed to turn a blind eye to these skulking, whispering apparitions, and so Kagome followed his lead. She sensed they were far more wary of her—and of him—than she was of them.

It was strange to her, how quickly this strange alien new place began to feel to her like home. More like home to her than Edo village did, which made her vaguely ashamed to admit, even to herself. But then when she combed back through the years, she found the touchpoint to her sentiments, in the youkai-riddled wilds she’d explored with Inuyasha and her friends. Sesshoumaru and his companions, too, for a time.

She didn’t want to leave. But like an anchor in her mind, the thoughts of what she’d left behind kept dragging her back. Of course Sesshoumaru’s keen eye didn’t miss this.

“You are thinking of Edo again,” he said, the cool even tone of his voice cutting through her muddled preoccupations.

Gazing off toward the east, Kagome nodded.

“Of Inuyasha.”

There was no inflection in this, but Kagome frowned anyway. She couldn’t help it. She turned to Sesshoumaru. She looked up at him where he stood beside her on the glittering, windswept ridge.

“Yes,” she said simply. “I’m thinking of him.”

“You feel guilty,” Sesshoumaru said, his golden eyes trailing her face.

Kagome gave a hollow laugh. “Of course I do.”

“Is that all you feel?”

“I don’t know,” Kagome said, shaking her head.

“That’s a lie.”

Kagome glared up at him. “Who are you to call me a liar? Or to tell me how I should feel, for that matter? You, of all people.”

“Yes,” Sesshoumaru said, peering down at her, “me, of all ‘people.’ The father of your son.”

Kagome bristled. “Just because you knocked me up doesn’t mean you know everything about me.”

“If not I, then who? You’ve just admitted that you yourself know nothing.”

Kagome eyed him narrowly. “Why do I get the feeling you’re trying to provoke me?”

“Because I am,” Sesshoumaru said, his golden eyes glinting down at her with an unmistakably diabolic glow. “You are at your best when you’re fighting for what you believe to be right. Cowardice is unbecoming to you.”

Kagome’e eyes widened. Hotly, she glanced aside. His words struck at a steely cord buried deep within her.

“All right,” she said, glancing back to him. “Take me back to Edo, then.”

Sesshoumaru nodded. They collected Shin and set off through the sky, sailing eastward on Sesshoumaru’s youki cloud. Fishing out a snack for Shin on the flight home, Kagome spied her wedding band gleaming dully in her backpack pocket. She’d taken it off just before leaving Edo.

She had a fleeting impulse to pick the ring up and toss it over the edge of the cloud, where it’d be lost to the wilderness forever. But she zipped the pocket shut over the ring instead.

    1. I have this weird feeling about S/I 💀 I wonder if the child she is pregnant with is Ms or no… ahhhh so many possibilities. I do hope that K/S can have their happy ending in the demonic realm ❤️ amazing chapter update as always!!

  1. Why do I get the feeling when she returns to edo there will be a significant time difference. Like the time in the demonic realm moves slower than the time in the regular world if that makes sense 😵‍💫.

  2. Here we go 😖

I have no idea how many days it’s been for them but I think it’s definitely helped. Kagome seems a lot less panicky now.

Why was Sess provoking Kagome cute to me? 😂 It was so funny how easily how he could get under her skin.

      Thanks for sharing, oskorreia!! <3

  3. The fact that she didn’t put the ring back on!!! YES KAGOME, cowardice IS unbecoming to you.

Im freaking out over what’s to come 😅

In some ways Kagome is even more fey and wild than Inuyasha 🥰 If she was with Kouga I think she’d have adapted very quickly, living the rugged life with the wolf tribe.

I’m so nervous for what they’re gonna find back in Edo. Inuyasha disappeared? Rin ran off with Kohaku? The village in flames? 😬

    1. Yepp we shall see…!

Love hearing your thoughts on the scene, Kova! Thanks for sharing the passage that stood out to you <3 Kagome has an untamed spirit for sure 🙂

  5. It is time 😳 *clutches popcorn* Prayin for the good health and wellbeing of all in this upcoming encounter because my heart is WEAK.

That is so badass. But also a bit harsh there, Kagome?? :’D Keep it tucked for a while.

    1. Haha yeahhh that would have been a rash thing to do XD

Thanks for sharing, friend!! Hope you enjoy how things go down in the next chapter!! <3

  6. “Yes,” Sesshoumaru said, peering down at her, “me, of all ‘people.’ The father of your son.”

    Haha! Love it!

It’s all coming to a head – can’t wait for the next chapter!

Kagome is giving ‘mother of monsters’ kind of energy here so I’m not surprised they wouldn’t mess with her 👀 She’s the second scariest thing in the castle next to Sesshoumaru

  8. From the mood going back to Edo I’d take it there’s ~ A Plan ~ here because none of them look too concerned at the moment 🧐 Putting my safety helmet on just in case though.
