SessKag Series: Control, Part 187

This entry is part 187 of 227 in the series Control [Complete]

Sesshoumaru’s words slammed into her like a physical blow. Kagome went rigid, all the color draining from her face.

“Kagome,” he started to say again, against her the corner of her lips, “I—”

Don’t!” she cried out, struggling fiercely. Sesshoumaru bit back a snarl as she broke violently from his hold and scrambled up, backing away from him with her fists clenched and her eyes flashing. “Don’t you fucking say it.”

A knit formed between Sesshoumaru’s fine brows, as he rose and started after her. “…What’s gotten into you now?”

“What’s gotten into me?” she choked, shaking her head with a terse little jerk. “How dare you, Sesshoumaru…how dare you say such a thing to me now.”

Sesshoumaru’s youki gave off a dark, sullen heat. “You exasperating woman—I thought it would please you. Did you not yourself try to wring those very words from me, only a short time ago?”

“‘A short time ago’…”

Bitterly, Kagome turned from him. A hollow bite of laughter escaped her, as she wrung her hands in her damp, clinging hair. Her nails scored into her scalp, a few strands snapping in the stranglehold of her grasp. Sensing Sesshoumaru on her heels, she whirled back around, and sent a potent wave of reiki surging towards him. With a glare, he fended off the attack, though the trailing end of his fur was singed nevertheless.

“It may not seem like so long ago to you,” she said, her voice trembling with ill-suppressed resentment. “But a lot has happened since then—too much.”

Sesshoumaru’s flinty expression sharpened a fraction more. “What has happened?”

But Kagome just shook her head again. “What do you care? You just come and go, like you always do. So don’t try to twist things. Don’t insult me with your empty phrases—they don’t ‘please me’ one bit.”

The lanterns dimmed as Sesshoumaru’s demonic aura swelled to fill the room. Though Kagome’s breath caught until she’d purified it, she held her ground against the crushing force of his displeasure.

“It is your own accusations which are false,” he said, cold and cutting. “You know I speak the truth.”

Jaw set, Kagome turned her face away. “Even so, it’s too late for that now—can’t you see? It was too late even when I asked you before. If you’d spoken those words to me a year ago, I would have been so happy.” Painfully, she swallowed against the lump of her own regrets. “Fuck your tender words, and your tender feelings, too. They don’t mean anything to me now. I don’t feel anything for you—I don’t feel anything for anyone, anymore.”

When suddenly she sensed him upon her, she held her ground still. Sesshoumaru’s voice was severe.

“Apologize to me.” The points of his claws dented her cheeks as he steered her gaze up to his. “Now.”

Wrathfully, Kagome’s features twisted. “Apologize to you? Don’t make me laugh.” Her fingers grasped his, hooked and scorching. “I don’t owe you a goddamn thing.”

Sesshoumaru grimaced as his flesh began to blacken and peel away on contact. The rosary glowed red-hot against the sear of his gathering youki. Kagome glanced at the beads only briefly—

She didn’t need them.

“There’s enough blood between us to turn a river red,” she said. “So what did you think, Sesshoumaru, hm? Did you think with just a few sweet words I’d forget what a beast you are? Did you think I’d forget how Inuyasha died because of you? Did you think I’d forget all the dozens of women you’ve slaughtered, and all the hell that came after? Did you think we’d just go off into the sunset together like none of it ever happened? What the fuck is wrong with you that you can’t see we both deserve to suffer for this? We’re bound together, oh yes we are—but not by ‘love‘. No, not that at all…”

“Kagome…” he warned, but she was hearing none of it.

“How dense are you, anyway?—you think after all you’ve put me through, I haven’t learned a thing or two? That I left Edo empty-handed?” Beneath her skin reiki coalesced, and Sesshoumaru was forced away from her at last, repelled by the transcendent strength of it. “The barrier is within me now. You’ll never have me, Sesshoumaru—not you or any demon. I’ve sealed myself off from the likes of you entirely.”

“You madwoman,” Sesshoumaru seethed, as his youki crashed like black thunder around them, and the tower shook to its eldritch foundations. “…Are you trying to provoke me?”

At Kagome’s feet, a fiery circle of reiki burst forth, tinted red with her own life blood. Its virulent heat radiated outward from her. Fissures of scarlet light spread through the walls and floors like veins of blistering flame.

“Maybe I am—so what?” Her eyes glinted madly at him through the shadowy glare. “Come at me, Sesshoumaru, if you dare. Let’s end this like we should have from the beginning. I’m ready to die here—are you?”

  1. 😔😔😔😔😔😔😩😩 Why can’t they just get along? If they kill each other, maybe that’s the only way they coexist. In death. This just turned so dark so quick 😂 Damn Char

  2. Lmao I love the turn this took! Kagome saying “come at me bro” made me screeeechhh I hope she kicks his ass 😂

  3. Girlfriend needs to make up her mind! One minute it’s “fuck me bloody, I want it so bad” and next it’s “you’ll never have me, you beast”…which is it? No wonder sessh is pissed off at her!

  4. Lol did y’all really think it was gonna be that easy 😂 DID YOU FORGET WHAT YOU’RE READING he literally rapes women to death, it’s his thing, and she’s gone completely insane and power-crazed. I love this, thank you Char for staying with the characters as you’ve written them!!

    1. Thank you so much, K!! 😭😭😭

Dark fic writing can be grueling at times – so glad you’re enjoying the characterizations in this story <3 <3 <3

  5. Is he going to tell her about “that night,” and about how inuyasha ended up dead?

    Bastard.

I do like sessh, i do, but in this story he’s one twisted bastard.

  6. Weird, I really thought I left a comment here earlier. I guess I forgot to hit post. 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, as much as I wanted something mushy and romantic, I was kinda expecting Kagome to lose her shit. The reiki chastity shield was a surprise though. 😅

My heart really breaks for both of them and I’m throughly bracing myself for more angst and tragedy. But I still can’t help but hope for something resembling a happy ending for them.

    1. “Anyway, as much as I wanted something mushy and romantic, I was kinda expecting Kagome to lose her shit. ” – XD yep you were right…

Thanks for sharing, friend! Hope you enjoy where things go from here~!

  7. Damn, I picked the wrong week to go on vacation 😂.

Throughout the last few chapters, I was holding my breath. I knew it was too simple and too easy, especially considering how long it’s been and everything that has happened. Tragically, Kagome could live an entire lifetime in the blink of Sesshoumaru’s eye. I think the most telling moment was last chapter, when Sesshoumaru wanted her to say she was “his” (probably a much closer approximation of love for him—love is possession, protection, unchanging and unspoken). Kagome tried to turn into dirty talk, degrading herself and their connection, so he had to resort to the messy human way of communicating. God, he didn’t do himself any favors by suggesting that he just said it to please her, but I suspect he meant it as more of a cultural difference than as empty sentimentalities.

Despite how brutally strong and powerful Kagome is, in his absence she has really allowed herself to internalize the feelings of those around her—with Ren calling her a demon’s whore and Kohaku treating her like one. She has forgotten who she was before she started playing these games of seduction and domination. I think she is really traumatized by what happened between her and Kohaku—his remarks that she’s incapable of loving anybody except in hindsight, his accusation that she desires demons, and his rape and treatment of her as a whore. It would be completely insane if Kagome instantly got over that and was ready to play happy family with Sesshoumaru. Frankly, I’m glad he’s being punished for his failure to protect her, but I don’t really see where they can go from here.

I don’t know how dark you intend to go with this one, but the idea that it is “too late” now but wouldn’t have been a year ago gave me a creepy premonition. Hirokin can erase memories, yes? I could very easily see this ending with Sesshoumaru “starting fresh” with Kagome via the help of his trusty vassal. I don’t WANT it to go that way, but I can see it happening lol.

(Ps—will Sesshoumaru find out what happened in his absence? 👀 Kohaku deserves to be knocked down about 10000 pegs 🙏)

    1. Hey Alex!! Hope you had an awesome vacation <3

"God, he didn’t do himself any favors by suggesting that he just said it to please her, but I suspect he meant it as more of a cultural difference than as empty sentimentalities." - Lol yep, wires crossed again XD

Kagome certainly has internalized trauma 🙁 What will the fallout ultimately be? Love hearing your thoughts and theories, friend!! <3 Thanks so much for sharing <3 <3 <3
