The youki swirling around Shin condensed, settling over him like a snowdrift—until Kagome realized that the soft pearly fluff that wreathed him wasn’t snow, but fur. Still now in this demonic form, he peered up her with his gleaming, slit-pupiled eyes, coldly and inscrutably. His normally expressive face was devoid of all human feeling. His sharp elfin features looked like they’d been carved from stone.
“Well, well,” Toutousai murmured, ambling forward as he rubbed at the angry red welt rising on his head, “would you look at that.”
Kagome’s trembling hands fell from her mouth as she reeled upon him, glaring. “What did you do to him, you psycho? What did you do to my son?”
At the furious flare of her reiki, Toutousai quailed, putting up his clawed hands before him. “I didn’t do anything! I merely revealed him.”
“‘Revealed him’? What does that even mean!”
“Look, priestess,” the old demon said, pointing a gnarled claw past her. “Look and see for yourself.”
Kagome turned. Shin’s stony face was no longer expressionless. There was a fine, fissurelike knit between his brows, like he was annoyed. His golden eyes flashed red, so quickly that if Kagome had blinked she would have missed it. Then with a rush and a flicker, he phased seamlessly back into his human form once again. His blue eyes glimmered up at her with such a depth of emotion it was like a balm to her heart. His stubby little hands reached toward her. She scooped him up at once, hugging him close and kissing him all over.
“Thank the gods,” she breathed into his soft raven hair. “You’re yourself again…”
“He was always himself,” Toutousai groused, folding his hands into his frayed sleeves. “I just induced a transformation in him, that’s all. I can’t make him hold it if he doesn’t wish to.” His bulbous glance turned shrewd. “Still, what flawless blood control. As to be expected of Sesshoumaru’s heir. A fine pedigree, that.”
Kagome’s own blood froze in her veins. “What did you say?”
Toutousai rubbed at his fading welt again, eyeing her warily. “Well,” he backpedaled, “I don’t doubt that your miko traits have had a tempering effect on the boy as well.”
“Not that,” she snapped, trying to quell her rising panic. “You said—you just said that he’s—that Sesshoumaru is his—”
“The little lad’s sire?” Toutousai said, blinking owlishly at her, as if he were the one now confused. “Well, of course, he is. Isn’t it obvious?”
“No,” Kagome exploded, “it isn’t obvious. It isn’t obvious at all! Don’t you know that Inuyasha is my husband?”
Toutousai scrutinized her a long moment, before his expression turned cagey. “Whatever the case, the boy is most certainly Sesshoumaru’s offspring. That crescent blood mark of his is unmistakable.”
“No, it isn’t! Inuyasha said that crescent mark is his father’s, so it could skip a generation, couldn’t it?”
“Maybe so,” Toutousai allowed, “but not in this instance. Inuyasha’s father, the Inu no Taishou, possessed no such mark. Though he rose to be a great warlord in his time, he was lowborn. It is Sesshoumaru’s Lady Mother who possesses the blood mark. Hers is an ancient, noble clan, and she is heiress to it. Sesshoumaru inherited his crescent mark from her, as your son has inherited it from him.” The swordsmith’s bug-eyes sheened with sympathy. “Of course, Inuyasha would know nothing of this. His father died shortly after he was born, and he is an outcast, besides.”
Kagome stared at Toutousai in stunned silence, as the weight of his words crashed down upon her. She felt like she was drowning. In the wake of this crushing revelation, she struggled for purchase.
“Kirara,” she said faintly. “I think she recognized Shin’s blood mark, too.”
Toutousai nodded. “Nekomata’s blood-sight is keen. It grows even keener with age, and Kirara is quite ancient, at that.”
Dimly, Kagome wondered just how ancient Kirara was, for Toutousai of all people to refer to her as such. She shook her head.
“I don’t know what to say.” She hugged her arms around Shin. Her voice fell to a whisper. “Now more than ever, I’m afraid for my son.”
“You needn’t fear for him,” Toutousai said, missing the point yet again. “Unlike Inuyasha’s, your boy’s blood is quite stable. He doesn’t require a subduing blade like Tessaiga. That said,” the old swordsmith added, with an eager glint in his eye, “what weapons could be forged from fangs like his, I wonder. Such a unique half-demon. But then, Sesshoumaru was always an oddball.”
Kagome’s look went flat. “That’s pretty rich, coming from you.”

This reminds me of how supposedly cats meow only to get human attention – shin clearly knows the form his mother responds best to (i.e. with snuggles, kisses, and coddling) lol.
I actually feel pretty bad for Kagome here. Is she in the wrong? Absolutely. But she’s fighting between what she wants for herself, and the promises she made and people she will hurt. At least, that’s the way it looks from my perspective.
However it ends, it won’t be painless for her, but I hope she realises soon that she needs to make that decision before it’s made for her. And, tbh lol I really just want to see more sesskag bits 🙂 they’re bad, but at least they’re honest with each other lol (or as honest as kagome can be when she’s this deep in denial).

For real tho Sess and Kag cooked up one terrifying demon prince. Shin’s parents are celebrities, his breeding’s powerful, and his control is perfect. He’s like an apex predator with no natural enemies since he can master both reiki and youki. I’m guessing that would make HEADLINES in the youkai world if Toutousai went and blabbed

HAHAHAA ohhh Totosai you idiot. Imagine Sesshomaru hearing him call him an oddball. The old blacksmith is hanging onto life by a thread with that mouth haha. And honestly, I’m not sure why Kagome is afraid for Shin in this instance. Sesshomaru is clearly willing to recognize Shin as his heir, if his level of involvement and constant surveillance is anything to go by. And it’s not like Inuyasha, even in a rage, would hurt a baby. Or could hurt that baby. Papamaru would be in there in an instant. The one I’m worried about is Kagome. She’s in more danger if that’s revealed over anyone else considering the panic and pain it’ll cause, which could lead to Inuyasha losing control. She’d be his first target, right along side his brother probably. Though… I wonder if he would assume Sesshomaru raped Kagome if it was revealed? (Dark thought, sorry)
Inuyasha himself wouldn’t hurt a baby, but in canon once his demon blood takes over he’s slaughtered humans indiscriminately before, so 😬 And if it’s his demon blood in control, I think it’s highly likely that his primary instinct would be to eliminate a rival alpha’s young.
