SessKag Series: The Pact, Part 114

This entry is part 114 of 144 in the series The Pact [Ongoing]

Kagome’s thoughts remained hopelessly rattled as the day wore on. She hadn’t felt this shaken in some time, possibly ever. She was still feeling far from easy by the time Inuyasha came home. His glib good humor did nothing to cheer her. If anything, it did the opposite.

Sensing this, Inuyasha put Shin down and frowned toward her. “What is it?”

Kagome’s mouth opened, then shut again. “It’s Sango-chan,” she said after a moment, deflecting. “She’s pregnant.”

Inuyasha stared at her unblinking. Seemingly uncomprehending. His ears sagged along with the rest of him.

“…Fuck,” he exhaled, his claws kneading at his furrowed brow. “What kind of sick joke is that? At least the other kids have some memory of their dad. The one’s not even going to know anything about him.”

Kagome’s face fell. Trust Inuyasha to state things in the most blunt and harsh way imaginable. But then, this was the very fate that had befallen him. He’d never known his father, either.

“I mean,” he said, reading the expression on her face, “it’s not the end of the world or anything. I’m sure she’ll remarry pretty soon. But still, it won’t be the same. No matter how you slice it, it’s a fucking shame.”

“You really think so?” Kagome asked, blinking.

“Which part?”

“You think Sango-chan will remarry?”

Inuyasha shrugged. “Yeah, why wouldn’t she? She’s still young. She’s the same age as you are.” His golden eyes fixed on her like a hawk. “Are you telling me that if I died tomorrow you’d stay a widow forever?”

Kagome frowned, unnerved by his piercing glance. “I don’t know. I don’t think about things like that.”

“Yeah, well. All I’m saying is, she’s got everything going for her. So she can really have her pick, can’t she? She’s a great wife, a great mother,” he said, ticking off each of these positive attributes with a claw. “She’s got her own forge, her own money. She’s a damn good fighter and a skilled craftswoman, besides. She’s healthy and strong, and she’s…”

Kagome’s eyes narrowed on him. “She’s what?”

Inuyasha tugged at his ear as he scowled away, looking uncomfortable. “Well,” he blurted out, “she’s not exactly ugly, is she?”

“No,” Kagome said, her mouth twitching, “of course not. She’s beautiful.”

“Hey, you said it, not me,” Inuyasha said gruffly, still fidgeting with his ear. “Hell, she could marry a goddamn prince if she wanted to—she almost did, didn’t she?” As Kagome nodded, Inuyasha smirked. “Of course, whoever wants to court her will have to get through me first—those are my godkids, after all. Can’t just have a bunch of lowlifes hassling her.”

Kagome wondered how Inuyasha was going to vet Sango’s prospective suitors when he was never around. As though this realization had dawned on him as well, he crossed his arms at his chest and glanced aside.

“I’ve been thinking,” he said, his golden eyes sheening in the hearth light. “What happened with Miroku—well, it fucked me up more than I’d like to admit. I’m not proud of how I handled it.” He glanced back to Kagome. “I haven’t been here for you and Shin like I should have. Sango, either. I know she can look after herself just fine, but she’d got three kids and now a fourth one on the way.” He shook his head. “Kohaku’s been nagging me for weeks to quit being a mercenary and take on extermination jobs with him. The pay’s shit, but it’s honest work, and a lot less hectic. We’ve been set on money for a while now. The truth is, I’ve just kept at it to distract myself.”

“He asked after you again today,” Kagome said thickly, as though the words were being pulled from her throat, “when I saw him at Sango-chan’s place.”

Inuyasha nodded. “Yeah, well, that’s as much of a sign as anything. I’ll go and talk to him tomorrow. I owe it to all of you to do better—Miroku, too.” His eyes sheened again before he screwed up his face. “I guess what I’m trying to say is, I ought to be around more.” Hauling Kagome to his chest, he murmured into her hair, “It’ll be good for us, won’t it?”

Slowly and dismally, she nodded.

  1. I don’t see anything wrong with Inuyasha seeing good qualities in Sango. But what are Kagome ‘s qualities?
You know .. as a husband should let her know. But Kagome is cheating so ….

    1. Inuyasha listing all of Sango’s qualities had me so annoyed LMAO. It must just be the woman in me.

  2. Omg Inuyasha’s gonna hook up with Sango, isn’t he? He’s been saying how great she is since the start of the story.

  3. Man Inuyasha is just *shakes fist* I hope Shin EATS him.

It’s like he’s got this obsession over this ‘ideal type’ he wants Kagome to be and isn’t. Of course Sango’s qualities shine brighter to him when he’s looking for it since the start. Yet when he was drunk, he looked like he’d rather kill her than let her go 😭

Congrats on your engagement! Wish you happiness and good vibes <3

    1. Not I hope Shin eats him!!!! Lol!😂🤣😅 it does make you see why kagome sought Sesshoumaru out, doesn’t justify infidelity.

    2. Thank you so much!! Appreciate the well wishes & good vibes – sending them right back at ya <3

Love hearing your thoughts on the scene & Inuyasha's behavior! Hope you enjoy the next part!! 🙂

  4. Oh wow ! Congrats, you must be so giddy ! Have fun planning the future with the man/woman of your life!

You know, you wrote Miroku’s death so well that I feel a pang of sadness each tie I open that blog. I think you fucked me up too with his disparition. He’s always around in most fictions, so I kinda never imagined the inuyasha world without him.
    Shudder.
That means you really made a great job.

    1. Thank you so much! Giddy is the perfect way to describe it 🙂 <3

It was very hard to write Miroku's death - he's very much a fixture in the IY universe for me as well... 😢

Appreciate the feedback and kind words & hope you continue to find the story a compelling read <3

  5. Inuyasha has admired Sango’s medieval perfection for a while. “She’s beautiful, can cook, owns a business, bore multiple children, and takes care of her man 😤” He’s been wanting Kagome to take notes but…yea. It’s clear he respects Sango in a way that he never respected Kagome

If Inuyasha’s around more often when is she going to find the time to sneak off and get railed by his big brother? Poor Kagome 😥

I still don’t trust Inuyasha. Something has been off about him the entire story. Has he truly been THAT loyal to Kagome’s bipolar self?

    Most importantly,
Congrats on your engagement!! May wonderful things continue to happen for you!!!

    1. “If Inuyasha’s around more often when is she going to find the time to sneak off and get railed by his big brother?” – hahaha that IS the question!

Thanks so much for the congrats!! Appreciate the love & sending mine right back at ya! <3

  6. Hi!

Congratulations on your engagement! So very happy and excited for you!

Umm. . .I think Inuyasha is a little delusional to think Sango would REMARRY. . .although she is a catch. I just don’t see it since she basically can support herself and her family WITHOUT a man. And if she had Inuyasha helping her feel SAFE. . .what man is realistically going to lure her into marriage?

And. . .I get why Sesshomaru is mad. . .he feels for Kagome and she is SO DENSE. . .yeah. . .she’s cheating on Inuyasha but she’s ALSO cheating in Sesshomaru. . It’s so complicated. It’s a shame. . .I think them as a threesome would solve a lot of problems!

    Thanks!
    -EM

    1. Thanks so much, EM!! <3 Appreciate the well wishes!

Love hearing your thoughts & questions regarding this scene! Kagome is dense alright XD

Hope you continue to enjoy the journey!! 🙂

  7. I first want to say, congrats on your engagement!

I was so annoyed when Inuyasha was talking about Sango remarrying because she is still mourning for her husband, like damn. Also, it is very unlikely for her to even do so as she clearly loved Miroku very much and probably isn’t interested in remarrying.

Also, she is perfectly fine on her own as her family, friends and villagers can help her with the children if she needs it.

And that obvious jab to Kagome, when he was listing on Sango, qualities was so…typical at this point for him.

I feel like Kagome is going to go mad when she won’t be able to see Sesshomaru as much. I agree with the other comments, Kagome is technically cheating on both of the brothers but I feel so bad for Sessh as she is still dragging him through this bs and is clearly being affected by it.

    1. Thanks so much for the congrats, Pixie!! <3

Yeah Inuyasha can be such an ass XD Love hearing your thoughts on the scene, the various character dynamics and the ramifications for Kagome & Sess going forward! Thanks for sharing & hope you enjoy how things continue to play out from here 🙂

  8. Ooh, congratulations on your engagement!! All the best for you and your bae!!!

There’s lots to say about Inuyasha and his callousness but hueh, 😮‍💨, like Kagome, what’s there she doesn’t already know? (Aside from the stuff he keeps vanishing off to for, which, sus sus)

I keep holding out hope for Kagome. She’s in the PITS right now, making all these missteps and terrible decisions, and she’s lamented her old self a few times but I don’t think that girl’s really gone. Her reiki’s still pure. She still tries her best for the people who need her.

Maybe what she REALLY needs to revive that girl with the brilliant soul who ran around defeating evil in her seifuku is to talk to her mom

    1. Kagome really could use her mama right now 🙂 She’s way in over her head it seems….

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the situation so far, oskorreia, & thanks a million for the congratulations! So appreciated <3
