It was wishful thinking, looking back, for Kagome to hope that this moment would never come. To hope that it could be delayed indefinitely. That she could continue to avoid it forever.
Because until she was put to the point, she could pretend that it wouldn’t come to this. That she wouldn’t have to look Inuyasha in the face and say it to him straight. Sesshoumaru was right—when had she become such a coward? But she couldn’t help herself, she couldn’t face it until it was right in front of her, until she had no choice.
She’d hemmed and hawed. She’d dithered and vacillated and made excuses that were wearing thinner and thinner each time that she made them. She could feel it. He could feel it.
She wished she could feel differently, but she couldn’t. Her stomach turned. Her guilt twisted her up inside with an aversion he didn’t deserve and she couldn’t suppress.
“Inuyasha,” she said, breaking away from him. Her hands pressed to his chest, pushing back when he tried to lean in and kiss her again. “Inuyasha, please.”
“What?” he demanded gruffly, irritably. “What is it now?”
“Nothing,” she replied, not quite meeting his eye. “I’m just not feeling up to it. Maybe some other time.”
“Some other time.” He turned from her, raking his claws through his hair. “That’s what you always say.”
“I’m just tired.”
“Yeah?” His eyes cut back to her, golden and searing. “Well, so am I.”
Kagome bristled. “Caring for Shin saps my energy, you know that. I’ve explained that to you a dozen times. When I’m in ‘mommy mode,’ I’m just not in the mood, sorry.”
“You don’t sound fucking sorry.”
“Gods…” Kagome drew in a terse breath, kneading at the stitch in her brow. “What do you want from me?”
“I want you to be my wife,” he shot back. “Is that so much to ask?”
“So if I don’t have sex with you whenever you want it, I’m not your wife?” Kagome shook her head. “That’s so demeaning.”
Inuyasha stalked back over to her, shoving his face into hers. “Don’t try to turn this around on me. You know good and well what I mean.”
Kagome quailed. “…I just need some more time, that’s all.”
“Time,” Inuyasha scoffed as he drew back from her. “Yeah, okay. Back to that old line again. Like I haven’t given you plenty of ‘time.’ I’m not some fucking animal—I understand you needed to heal and all that. But it’s been months now since the kid was born, and I know damn well you’ve gone through several heat cycles already so don’t give me that—”
“Heat cycles?” Kagome cut him off witheringly. “Well, I don’t know why we’re even having this discussion if your nose tells you everything you need to know about me!”
“Maybe not everything,” Inuyasha said darkly, “but it sure helps to cut through some of the bullshit, yeah.”
Kagome’s heart clenched. “You think I’m not being honest with you?” she whispered, too keyed-up to be cautious now.
“Yeah, so why don’t you just spit it out already—what your real problem is, because the way I see it, ‘some other time’ just means ‘never.’”
“Fine, then—I just don’t want to. I don’t want to sleep with you.”
Inuyasha’s ears flattened. Kagome’s throat constricted, unable to draw breath. After an interminably long moment, he nodded once, stiffly.
“Got it,” he muttered, as he turned and stalked from the hut.

Not gonna lie, I have mixed emotions, I feel bad for inuyasha but at the same time he’s been abusive so I cannot feel too bad. Then you have kagome literally cheating on him, stringing Sesshoumaru along and she angers me. But at the same time she’s so mentally off, with all the self deprecation, guilty conscious she carries, can you really expect her to make rational decisions given the state of her mind. And Sesshoumaru is such an enigma, there’s certain things he has not made clear to Kagome, like that mark he left on her neck. Very grey characters here, no one is innocent in this story, I know that much.

I feel like since it’s been so long since we last saw Inuyasha act outright abusive towards Kagome, we’re sort of left feeling sorry for him since she’s cheating, but he’s the one who was drinking and taking out all his anger on her for a while there, calling her names in front of friends and family and making a whole scene until he scared her. I don’t really feel all that bad for him, but I am disappointed in Kagome for not getting it together by this point and just owning up to her feelings at least to herself. I get it, but I don’t like it, lol. That’s great writing to have me feeling all those ways though. So excited to see how this revelation for her might start a snowball effect of new truths being revealed that we know but she seems to be in denial about.
Kagome’s tenacity can certainly be a double-edged sword… And this is a tumultuous situation to navigate, no question.

This reveal is going to trigger all of Inuyasha’s abandonment issues. Kagome rejecting and abandoning him is going to be soul breaking. I also fear that Inuyasha will be devastated by being rejected again by Sesshomaru after he has some modicum of trust and a relationship with him. He is either going to go beyond feral, and Sesshomaru will have to put him down or we will just wander off to die like a terminally ill dog.
Certainly Inuyasha has many insecurities, and these are very real possibilities…😢 It’s dangerous ground, for sure.

I have just caught up with the recent chapter (I think I was like 9 chapters behind 😅) and wow a lot of things happened! While it did give Kagome more time with Shin being human, it was given his demon side will show up eventually. Honestly, him having a demon form did catch me off guard cause I was not expecting it at all though, Sess’s previous comment about him being fully human and fully demon does make more sense now. In chapter 90, when I first read Kagome saying “perfectly human?” to Shin I interpreted it in a negative light of her being hopeful about it, though, I reread again and I think it was just her questioning about why he is in this form. Not gonna lie, when they first witnessed his demon form WITH the crescent moon, I was holding my breath because I honestly thought she was done for! BUT the funny thing is, I did speculate way earlier that if the baby did have it, Inu may assume he inherited it from his father as he never really knew what he looked like, making it him not to delve into it. Though that didn’t mean I wasn’t freaking out when that scene happened lol. While Inu is a shit husband no doubt, I have to admit, he does seem to care about Shin and is trying to be a father figure to him, which makes me kinda feel bad for him when he finds out. Still, it is heartbreaking to see Sess not being able to be a father to his own son. Another thing I liked is how accepting Kagome is of Shin’s demon side, she doesn’t try to repress that part of him and is trying to learn more about being a mom to him in this form as well. Anyway sorry for an essay of a comment! I look forward to the next update!

I wonder if their relationship dynamics will end up driving him into someone else’s arms and bed. Hmmm…maybe Miroku will die from medicinal noncompliance and Sango and Inuyasha will end up becoming closer in their mourning.
