SessKag Series: The Secretary, Part 5

This entry is part 5 of 11 in the series The Secretary [Hiatus]

Inuyasha was the first to recover his senses–in a manner of speaking.

“Oi, Sesshoumaru,” he said tersely, “what the hell are you doing here?”

Kagome grimaced. Kouga glared. Shrugging off the surly hanyou, he plastered on a hospitable smile and strolled toward the inu daiyoukai.

“Well, well—if it isn’t Sesshoumaru,” he greeted amiably, straightening his tie. “Long time no see. Shiori-chan,” he called back over his shoulder, “get the Lord of the Western Lands a drink.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Sesshoumaru replied.

“Eh?” Kouga blinked, as though the idea of turning down free booze was utterly inconceivable to him.

“I’m only here,” he said, his gaze shifting pointedly toward his brother, “to collect my secretary.”

Kagome’s stomach dropped. Inuyasha’s ears flattened.

“You gotta be fucking kidding me,” the hanyou fumed. “It’s almost midnight!”

“I’m perfectly aware of what time it is, Inuyasha,” Sesshoumaru returned coolly. “Had you not abducted the miko from my office, our work would have been completed hours ago. As it stands,” he continued, golden eyes slanting toward her, “we still have unfinished business to attend to.”

Kagome clutched at her upper arms, a curious shiver threatening to overtake her.

“Bullshit!” Inuyasha yelled, brandishing a now-rusty Tessaiga at his older sibling. “This is just a power play, and you know it.”

“Hey, watch where you’re swinging that thing, mutt,” Kouga growled, advancing. “If you cut up my floors again, I’m taking it out of your hide.”

“Back off, baka wolf—this is between me and Sesshoumaru.”

Actually,” Kagome corrected, both Kouga and Inuyasha wincing at the venom in her tone, “this has nothing to do with either of you.”

Stepping briskly around them, she approached Sesshoumaru and bowed.

“Gomen, Sesshoumaru-sama. I’m ready whenever you are.”

Inuyasha’s jaw fell slack. “Kagome…you can’t be serious.”

She shot him a baleful look before returning her attention to her employer. Sesshoumaru considered her, his expression inscrutable.

“Kouga,” he said with a nod of farewell. “Inuyasha.”

Without further ado, he turned to go. Kagome followed quickly after him, leaving Inuyasha spluttering in her wake.

“Goodnight, you guys!”

Oi! Get your asses back here!” Inuyasha hollered after them. “I’m not through—”

“Yeah you are,” Kouga grunted. A scuffle ensued as he struggled to restrain the cursing hanyou. “…Don’t be a stranger, Kagome-chan! If you get too burned out, my offer of employment still stands.”

Shaking her head, she continued weaving her way through the crowd—which had promptly re-dispersed after seeing that there was no fight to be had between the club owner and his patrons. With his gleaming silver-white hair, Sesshoumaru was pretty easy to spot even in the low light of the club, and she made her way toward him like a beacon.

Outside, the air was crisp and cool. She took a deep breath as she scanned around. Parked next to the curb was a sleek black Mercedes, its passenger rear door hanging ajar. She approached it uncertainly.

“Get in, miko,” Sesshoumaru’s stern voice commanded from within.

She bent down and stepped inside, her short skirt riding up even further as she slid across the seat. Next to her, Sesshoumaru sat, his attention focused on the slim computer resting in his lap. As the driver pulled away, he continued to read and type, paying her no heed whatsoever.

This was nothing unusual in Kagome’s experience. He often ignored her presence—sometimes for hours on end. What was strange was how intently he seemed to be doing so, an aura of cold indifference radiating from him in icy waves. When he finally snapped the laptop screen shut, she realized what it was.

He was furious.

Kagome eyed him hesitantly, fiddling with the material of her seatbelt. His jaw was clenched, his lips drawn into a razor-thin line. She was torn between saying something and keeping her mouth firmly shut.

In the end, her concern won out over her better judgment.

“Sesshoumaru-sama,” she began. “Is everything—”

“Your underwear,” he said abruptly, “take it off.”

Kagome froze in shock. He was still glaring straight ahead, one hand gripping the edge of his laptop, the claws of the other digging into the armrest at his side.

Had he really just said what she thought he’d said? This was crazy, absolutely insane. Dimly, she realized she’d forgotten to breathe.

“You,” she choked out. “…you want me to…?”

He turned toward her, his gaze scintillating. “Was I not clear?”

She stared hard at him, swallowing. Inside her chest, her heart was pounding a mile a minute.  She felt as though she were standing on the edge of a cliff. Somehow she knew that if she took this plunge, if she gave in to this demand of his, there was no going back for her.

Ever.
